At the dawn of 2022, Slugcrust began from the ashes of the grindcore group, WVRM’s disbandment. Derick Caperton (guitar) and Brett Terrapin (drums) continued the core songwriting foundation, adding in Stacey Williams on bass, and Jesse Byrdic on vocals, completing the Greenville, South Carolina based, death-grind outfit. What was going to be a WVRM release, turned into Slugcrust’s self titled EP. Initially the band self released it, and through their vocalist Jesse’s connection with Swamp, his previous band, they approached Jay Crash at Terminus Hate City about a one-off cassette release. This initial release turned into a long-term relationship. While they set their foundation with the Atlanta based label, Slugcrust had officially been signed to Prosthetic Records out the gate for their debut LP.

The Greenville quartet continued to build hype around their name with an immediate follow up EP, recruiting Terminus Hate City once again to help them release “From Whom Hell Shall Never Depart” on cassette. They also self released a cover of “X” by System of a Down… all of this before their debut LP, “Ecocide” dropped on Prosthetic Records in September of the same year as their official inception. In early 2023, Terminus Hate City and Nightshift Merch teamed up to co-release Slugcrust and Swamp’s split EP, titled “BIND”, featuring 3 brand new songs on the Slugcrust side, and 2 songs on the Swamp side. The album art was done by Jesse Draxler. Now, in 2024, Slugcrust has a brand new 5-song EP, “DISCHARGE(D)” which came out via Terminus Hate City on June 28th.
